Goose Creek's Unified Development Ordinance, adopted in June 2026, sorts trees by DBH, the trunk's diameter at breast height. A grand tree is at least 24 inches DBH, and a protected tree is at least eight inches DBH. Sweet gums and invasive species fall outside both classes, and pines fall outside the protected one. Unless an exemption applies, cutting either kind takes a city Land Disturbance Permit, and our work leaves them standing.
Under the same ordinance, certain new residential subdivisions of 25 acres or more must keep tree corridor areas. Those corridors are marked on the site plan or final plat, so check the plat before clearing a back line.
